Wilmer “Dean” Harrison, 78, of Waco went home to be with his Lord Saturday, January 18, 2014. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 23, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home 3124 Robinson Dr. with Reverend Marvin Thompson officiating and Wayne Branscum assisting. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with family will be Wednesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Pecan Grove Funeral Home.
Dean was born February 21, 1935, in Coolidge, Texas to Aaron W. and Lillie Faye Harrison. Moving to Waco in 1949, he worked as a young man for Western Union and Tusa Markets. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 – 1956. He married his beloved wife Jo Ann in 1957. Dean worked at General Tire and Rubber Company from 1958 until the closing in 1986. He attended TSTC, graduating in 1987. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service from 1987 until his retirement in 2000. Dean was a long-time member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Dean was preceded in death by his loving wife Jo Ann; his parents, “Bill” and Lillie Harrison; brothers, Lester Harrison, Eugene Harrison and Charles “Buddy” Harrison; and sister, Patty Ann Harrison.
He is survived by sister Wanda Key and husband Hollis of San Angelo; sister Linda Branscum and husband Wayne of Waco; brother Ray Harrison and wife Janet of Waco; sister Kay Shaw and husband David of Waco; numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces; and many dear friends.
Pallbearers are Ray “Rusty” Harrison, Gary Harrison, Terry Harrison, Mark Shaw, Jim Lewis and Larry Lynch.
