William Lawrence Quinn, age 80, of Waco, Texas, was called home to our Lord on Sunday, February 21, 2021.
Bill was born in Pittsburgh, PA to James and Helen Quinn on August 10, 1940 where he was part of a large family of 10 brothers and 4 sisters. Bill had a great love for his family as well as a love for fun and adventure. He had a strong streak of ambition and mischief, equally matched.
Bill served in the Armed Forces (Army) 1961-1964 and went on to receive his doctorate degree from Saint George University of Medicine on May 16 1982. Bill practiced medicine for many years in several states including Maryland, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Texas, specializing in geriatrics and later consulting.
Bill had a passion for family and fun, and a humble generosity of heart. He dearly loved his family and went to great lengths to keep them close and cared for. Bill cared for his mother in his home in her later years until she passed. When he lived in Hershey, PA and worked at the local VA hospital, he invited his nieces and nephews to visit for the weekend where they would play games and enjoy each other’s company while Bill stayed in the background and fostered the relationships, occasionally stirring things up just enough to get the mischief going. Bill enjoyed white water rafting and skiing as part of his great sense of fun and adventure. He was a lover of classical music, a nice meal and glass of wine, especially when shared with friends and family. Bill was a hands-on father, allowing Michael to experience travel, visit family across the country, and explore different areas of life. In Texas in his later years, Bill and Michael owned a paintball business where many were able to experience the game. Bill became known as “Doc” to his extended paintball family. Bill had a great sense of humor that is unique to being from a large family with just the right mix of mischief. You never quite knew what he was up to, but he embodied the Quinn humor very well.
Bill had an impact on many lives, from the poorest of the poor to the richest of the rich, and showed God’s love in his quiet but strong spirituality and through his humble actions toward all people.
Bill is survived by his son, Michael, sister, Sally, brothers David, Jack, Patrick and Philip, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and his beloved pet dog, Mia. Bill is predeceased by siblings Helen, James, Robert, Daniel, Loretta, Vivian, Joseph, Barney and Edward.
A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 12, 2021 at 10 AM CT at Saint Jerome Catholic Church in Woodway, Texas. Information about livestreaming the funeral will be provided at a later date.
