William Glynn Powell, 79, of Groesbeck and formerly of Eastland, passed away on January 26, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM, February 3, 2025, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, Waco, Texas 76706 with Pastor Darrel Phillips officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at 10:00 AM.
William “Bill” Powell was born on April 23rd, 1945, to Wanda Faye and William N Powell Jr. He graduated from Lorena High School in 1963. After high school, he joined the United States Airforce and served proudly while being stationed in Japan.
Bill owned and operated Powell Electric for many years before discovering his true passion in water treatment. He began his career as a Water Treatment Operator and steadily advanced, eventually earning one of the few Class A licenses in Texas. After retiring in 2008, he quickly realized that a life of idle time wasn’t for him. In 2009, he embraced a new chapter as an Engineering Consultant, a role he continued with dedication until the end of 2022.
In his free time, Bill took great pleasure in working with his hands, crafting a wide range of projects for his family—one of his proudest creations being a beautiful wooden bassinet for one of his grandsons. He also loved spending time outdoors, indulging in his favorite pastimes of fishing, tennis, pool, and golf. Above all, Bill treasured the moments he shared with his family, never turning down a friendly game of volleyball or engaging in fiercely competitive matches of dominoes.
Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Lori Powell; parents, Wanda Faye, William Powell Jr., and Elwain Hansen; daughter, Samantha Lavengood; and grandson, Stetson Hogue
Bill is survived by his sister, Joyce Ann Sims and husband, Carl; children Rodney Powell and wife Corrie, Billy Wayne Powell and wife Lynne, Glynnis Adams and husband Ray, Travis Woodley and Amanda; grandchildren, Stephanie, Jennifer, Rodney Jr., Kristi, Kayla, Seth, Madelyn, and Samantha; and numerous in-laws, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews
In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate donations to either St Jude’s or the American Heart Association in his honor.
