Wilbur Joe Scroggins, 90, passed away peacefully at Ellery Arbor Memory Care Facility in Colleyville, Texas, on Thursday, January 13, 2022. He was born November 09, 1931, in Memphis, Texas, to Dewey Edward Scroggins and Annie Mae Wilkins Scroggins. After attending school in Vernon, Joe enlisted in the U.S. Army in April of 1949. While in the service, Joe served overseas during the Korean war, was an instructor at Ft. Bliss, a communication chief in Germany, and an instructor and repairman at Ft. Hood. Joe met his wife of 63 years, Margaret Behringer, on a blind date with his brother James and Margaret’s best friend Irene. They married at Grace Lutheran Church in Mart, Texas on June 8, 1957. After being honorably discharged from the army in 1958, he pursued a career in electronic repair and sales. He worked at Sears and Radio City as an electric service technician, eventually opening his own repair and sales shop called Reliable TV in Waco, Texas. He spent most of his life in the Waco area with his wife and children, Diane Lynn (Scroggins) Able and Cheryl Renee (Scroggins) Doty. Joe enjoyed attending church, community organizations, playing golf, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchild.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Joe is survived by his brother, Norman Scroggins and wife Dorothy; daughters, Diane Able and husband Blake, Cheryl Doty and husband Alan; grandchildren, Tye Doty and wife Ashley, Kyle Doty and Amy, Tiffany McDougal and husband Trevor, and Corey Able and fiancé Grace; great-granddaughter, Charlotte McDougal; along with many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret, his parents, and brothers and sisters.
Visitation for family and friends will be at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Dr. Waco, TX, on Saturday, January 22, 2022, from 10 am to 11 am, followed by a funeral service at 11 am. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park, 6296 N Interstate 35 Frontage Rd., Waco, TX.
