Burial will be celebrated at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Waco, Texas on Saturday, February 20, 2021. Family visitation will be at the church from 9:30am-10:30am followed by a Rosary prior to the Mass at 11:00 am. Following Mass dinner will be provided the church and parishioners. Subsequently, he will be cremated and his ashes will be interned at Central Texas Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas with full military honors on a date and time yet to be determined.
Mr. Strom was born in Austin, Texas, and adopted in infancy by Arthur Yelbert and Lula Mae Reid Strom,
and raised in San Antonio and Bandera, Texas. He retired from the U.S. Air Force on December 1, 1974,
having served for 22 years during both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a Medical Service
Technician and attained the rank of Technical Sergeant. He was also a VFW State Service Officer,
retiring on January 1, 1998 after serving for over 19 years at the VA Regional Office in Waco. He was a
Life Member of Greater Hewitt VFW Post 6008, Hewitt, Texas, a Past Post Commander of Lackland VFW
Post 9174, San Antonio, Past VFW District Commander three times, in 2000-2001, 2002- 2003 and
2007-2008, and a Life Member of the Military Order of the Cootie, having served as Seam Squirrel
(Commander) of Huaco Pup Tent 68, Hewitt. He also was a Life Member of the American Legion, DAV
and AMVETS.
He is survived by three sons, David Wayne and wife Theresa, Wesley Ray, Karl Eric and wife Joanna; four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services will include Roman Catholic committal and full military honors.
Honorary pallbearers will be member of VFW Posts 9174 and 6008.
