January 22, 1926 — April 11, 2014

Wesley Sommerfeld, 88, of Hallsburg, TX, passed away peacefully, following a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease, on April 11, 2014 at a local nursing home facility. Services will be 10 am, Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at Grace Lutheran Church, 814 E. Texas Ave. Mart, TX, with Pastors Kurt Rutz and Eldor Harmann officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors, Monday, April 14, from 6-8 pm at Pecan Grove Funeral Home 3124 Robinson Dr.
Wesley was born on January 22, 1926 in Riesel, TX, to Herbert and Selma Sommerfeld. He was baptized on February 14, 1926 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Riesel, TX and confirmed on March 17, 1940, by Pastor Biar at St Mark Lutheran Church, Waco, TX, with his memory verse being John 3:16. He worked for many years at Texas Coffin Company, eventually establishing his own business as a self-employed building contractor. He was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church of Mart, TX where he joyfully and faithfully served in various capacities. He was also an active member of the Hallsburg Volunteer Fire Dept. and served as councilman for the City of Hallsburg. Secondly to God was his love for his family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, dominoes, gardening, and farming.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nora Mae England; daughter, Kathy Kubitza.
He is survived by the love of his life, of 61 years, Evelyn (Becker) Sommerfeld; son-in-law Billy Kubitza, and wife Mari; daughters, Karen Kubitza and husband, Walter, and Kristi Kubitza and husband, Danny; grandchildren, Kimberly Vicha and husband, JR, Brandon Kubitza and wife, Kayla, Angel Breton and husband, Jason, Heather Hutchison and husband, Johnnie, and Kayla Neumann; great-grandchildren, John Robert Vicha III and Lily Breton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 106 S. Carpenter, Mart TX, 76664.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Bluebonnet Hospice, Park Plaza nursing and care staff, Providence Home Health and Dr. Barbin.
