Wendall Crunk, Sr., 76, of Waco, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015 surrounded by his family and friends after a long and courageous battle. Funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, September 3, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Family will receive visitors Wednesday, September 2 from 6:00-8:00pm at the funeral home.
Wendall was born June 29, 1939 to Calvin Dee Crunk and Ruth Josephine Crunk. He attended Rosenthal Elementary near Robinson, and graduated from University High School. Wendall attended college at Navarro Junior College, Tyler Junior College, and Baylor University. He excelled at sports throughout his life, especially football, where he received many athletic awards and recognition.
Wendall was a District Deputy at the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office for many years. On January 26, 1979 Wendall married Julianna Richards and they shared nearly 37 years together. He also proudly served as McLennan County Commissioner, Precinct 1 from 1997, until 2008. Wendall farmed and ranched in the Asa area all his life, was owner and operator of Crunk Agri-Service, and was a Pioneer Seed Agency Representative for 47 years. Wendall was also a member of Waco Masonic Lodge #92.
Wendall was a member of the Downsville Baptist Church. He enjoyed many outdoor activities with family and friends throughout his lifetime, especially hunting and fishing with crappie fishing being his favorite among his many hobbies. Wendall was an honorable man, a firm believer in a man’s word and a handshake, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Wendall is survived by his wife, Julianna; his two sons and their wives, Wendall Jr. and Karen, Ronald and Kim; brother, Bill Martin, and wife Clarice of Mississippi; and three granddaughters, Amanda, Allison, and Kayla.
Pallbearers will be John Speckmiear, Clay Speckmiear, Clint Speckmiear, Neil Mitchell, William Mitchell, and Todd Westerfeld.
The family would like to thank the entire team of nurses, doctors, and respiratory therapists at the Continuing Care Hospital in Temple for their graceful love and care.
