Weldon was born in Lueders, Texas, on February 17, 1929, the 6th of 19 children born to Jim C. and Amy (Brink) Lasseter. He grew up in the Waco area and attended Bosqueville and Waco schools. As a young man Weldon worked as a mechanic in his father's garage and later at Bird-Kultgen. In 1951 he married his high school sweetheart LaVerne Hoffmeyer at St. John's Church in Robinson, Tx.
Weldon served in the US Navy on the aircraft carrier USS Leyte, flying as a crew member on perilous missions during the Korean War. After being discharged he began his 30 year career working for the Federal Aviation Agency. Weldon worked as an electronics technician at airports in New Orleans, Abilene, Ft. Worth, and Dallas - Love Field and DFW. In 1980 he and LaVerne moved back to the Waco area where he took over duties of radar chief for the FAA at Waco Regional Airport. There he assumed responsibilities for all navigational aids, radar and communications systems used by aircraft at the airport. Weldon enjoyed being with family and friends, playing games, camping, fishing, hunting, boating, and RV-ing. He loved to read, watch the Rangers and play dominoes. Weldon left a legacy through his uncomplaining enthusiasm for fun, humor, and life.
