W.B. Haferkamp, 87, passed away Friday, November 24, 2023 in West, Texas. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 29 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Dr., Waco, with Reverend Richard Rust officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Friedens Cemetery in Riesel. There will be a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 28 at the funeral home, with prayer service beginning at 5 p.m.
Wilmer Bernard Haferkamp was born January 4, 1936 to Henry and Frieda (Holle) Haferkamp in Falls County, Texas. He married Helen Marie Springer on May 14, 1955, having many wonderful years together until her passing in 2020. As a young man, he enjoyed coaching little league baseball. W.B. worked for Pure Milk for 26 years before retiring. After retirement he delivered medicine for Pharmacy Plus for another 13 years. He was a long-time member of First Evangelical Church. W.B. was loved by all who knew him, especially his great-grandchildren who called him Papa Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; three brothers, Elwood Haferkamp, Elmo Haferkamp, Vernon Haferkamp; and three sisters, Alberta Wolske, Ester Wolske, and Linda Fenske.
W.B. is survived by his children, Judy Welch and partner Jill, David Haferkamp, Doug Haferkamp and wife Cecilia; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Pallbearers will be James Welch, Nick Haferkamp, David Epperson, Rick Korger, Jeremy Veselka, and Mark Veselka. Honorary bearers will be Roy Lee Snody, Melvin Helelfinger, Tyler Welch, Lucas Haferkamp and Elmo Haferkamp Jr.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to First Evangelical Church.
