Virginia Lynn Engelke, 75, of Chilton, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 22, 2023, in Hewitt. Funeral services will be 12:00 PM, Friday, January 27, 2023, at The First Baptist Church in Chilton with the Reverend Truett Newton, Reverend Mark Newton, and Dr. Jason Burden officiating. Burial will follow at the Chilton Cemetery. Visitation with family will be one hour prior at 11:00AM-12:00 noon in the church Annex.
Lynn was born April 29, 1947, in Marlin, Texas to Robert and Genevieve (Suttle) Goelzer. She was a graduate from Chilton High School and Baylor University. She married her High School sweetheart, Billy Engelke on September 3, 1965, in Chilton and they celebrated over 58 wonderful years together.
Lynn was an active member of the First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, sang in the Choir, played the piano/organ, and directed or served in numerous VBS, Camps and AWANA activities.
Lynn, called Mrs. E by her students, taught Home Economics for 24 years at Chilton High School. Receiving outstanding teacher award twice. She also led FHA and FCCLA including Parliamentary Procedure and other Star Events, which were awarded Regional, State and National recognitions. She was the Pirate Head Tennis Coach and Cheerleader Sponsor for ten years. During that time the tennis program won 9 District Team Titles, two Individual Titles at Regionals and a Boys Doubles State Championship in 1988.
After retirement in 2003, she served on the Chilton School Board for 14 years and worked elections at the voting polls.
Lynn was a devoted and loving wife, Mother and Grandmom. She enjoyed cooking, raising her children, spoiling her grandkids, caring for her pets, cheering on the Pirates and Baylor Bears and spending time with family especially on Sunday dinners, Holidays and Vacations.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the staffs of Hewitt Rehabilitation and Wellness Center and Bluebonnet Health Services for their compassion and comfort care during the final days of her life.
Virginia Lynn Engelke is survived by her husband of 58 years, Billy Engelke of Chilton; daughters Lisa Little (Robert) of Hillsboro; Amy Koster Bohrer (Zane) of Frisco; grandchildren Andee Little, Jase Little, Kylie Koster, Jackson Koster, Drew Koster, Jack Bohrer and Charlie Bohrer; great grandchild; Harley Rae Hileman. She is also survived by sister Betty Ann Hinton; brother Richard Goelzer (Sherrill), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Rose Marie Fitte and brothers Robert Goelzer Jr and Dr. Ronald Goelzer.
