Virgie E “Patt” Patterson 85, of Lubbock, passed away Monday, July 7, 2014. Services will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 10, 2014, at First Baptist Church of Lorena, 307 E. Center Street in Lorena, TX with Dr. David George officiating. Burial will be Friday, July 11, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at Gilliland Cemetery in Gilliland, TX. The family will receive visitors, Wednesday, July 9, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive in Waco.
Patt was born July 11, 1928, in Collin County to Virgie Elvis and Rosalie Patterson. He married Nadine Amalie Kruger on April 25, 1947. They moved to Lubbock, TX around 1950. There Patt began a long career with the Lubbock Police Department on December 1, 1952. He served many years as a walking policeman in different areas of Lubbock. He was much loved by the people on his beat. One business owner was quoted as saying, “When there’s trouble, it’s not like calling for help from the police but from a friend.” He retired on January 1, 1994, after 41 years of service. After retirement, Patt and his wife, Nadine, enjoyed traveling in their RV, fishing and visiting loved ones. He was also a great storyteller and shared his life experiences with all who surrounded him. Patt was a Christian and long-time member of Bethany Baptist Church in Lubbock. He moved to Waco to be near his family after illness.
Patt was preceded in death by his son, Steven Forrest Patterson; parents, Virgie Elvis and Rosalie Patterson; a brother, Robert Elvis Patterson; and sister, Rosemary Patterson.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Nadine Patterson; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Stanley Byrd; grandchildren, Kelly Byrd of San Antonio and Kimberly and Eldin Cooper of McKinney; two great-grandchildren, Gracie and Isaac Cooper; a sister and her husband, Elizabeth and LD Sherman; and many other much loved family members.
