Vernon Owens

Vernon Lynn Owens, of Waco, TX, passed away March 24, 2023. Visitation will be from 6 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 29, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 30, at Waco Memorial Park, with Pastor Mike Ferus officiating.
Vernon was born on October 23, 1936, in Brownfield, TX, to Clyde Vernon and Delma Frances Owens. Vernon married Shirley Anne Morris and they were married for 62 loving years. He served in the United States Army from 1959 – 1961. After leaving the Army, he began work at Yellow Freight, where he remained employed until retirement 30 years later. He loved fishing, camping, all things outdoors, and any project he could get his hands on.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Delma; and his sister, Faye Brooks.
He is survived by his wife Shirley; brother Tommy Owens and wife Barbara of Temple; sons, David Owens and wife Vickey of Valley Mills, Rickey Owens of Whitney; and Randy Owens and wife Linda of Bruceville-Eddy; and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Kyle Owens, Cameron Owens, Donnie Cleere, Ronnie Cleere, Collin Ferguson, and Gary Bailey.
