Travis Williams

Travis Harlan Williams Jr., 83 of Waco, passed away November 23, 2017, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, November 28 at Meadowbrook Baptist Church,
1207 N. Old Robinson Road, Dr. Cary Killough officiating. Interment will follow at Rosemound Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6 PM to 8 PM, Monday, November 27 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco.
Harlan was born July 7, 1934 to Travis H. Williams Sr. and Dora Nix Williams. He married the love of his life, Jo Ann Reimer on June 25, 1955. Together they enjoyed 62 years of happiness. They had two children, Terry Williams and Wendy Brown, and two grandsons, Joshua and Adam Brown. Harlan accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized at Third Street Baptist Church where he was an active member and served as Sunday School Director for several years before joining Meadowbrook Baptist Church.
Harlan served for 6 years in the U.S. Army, two years active duty and four years in the Reserves spending one year overseas in Germany, receiving an Honorable Discharge.
Harlan retired from General Tire after 32 years of service. He always enjoyed the annual Genco Banquet. Seeing his co-workers and reminiscing of their time at General Tire was the highlight of the evening. He then partnered with his son to purchase Reimer Pump Sales and Service from his Father-in-Law, R.G Reimer Sr., which he was active in until his death.
Harlan was involved in many activities throughout his life, most of them supporting his wife and children in their endeavors. He was a Mason for 56 years in the Fidelis Lodge. He was honored by the Alta Vista PTA with a Life Time membership to the National PTA, was a Little League Coach for several years, Scoutmaster for Troop 492 sponsored by Meadowbrook Baptist Church for several years, served on the Board for the Alta Vista Neighborhood Association for over 20 years. Harlan and his family were very supportive of the Waco Police Department. He enjoyed patrolling with the Citizens on Patrol and participating in the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association. Harlan’s biggest enjoyment came in doing things with his family. Whether he was coaching little league, on a Boy Scout campout he, along with the men that helped him tried to be examples to the boys in their care. He took pride in watching the scouts in his troop grow into fine examples of young men. He supported his wife and her Campfire Girls in their many activities.
Another thing Harlan enjoyed was taking his family on vacations, once he got out of the garage. We took several major vacations to places such as Colorado, Washington D.C. and Florida. One thing we did every year was go to Marble Falls and stay on Lake LBJ. We did this for over 40 years and it was always the highlight of the summer and we always had a really good time. He got to take his grandsons to Marble Falls a number of times before we stopped going. He also enjoyed going to see his grandsons play soccer, little league, Junior High and High School football and basketball.
Harlan was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; and son-in-law, Larry Wayne Brown.
Harlan is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jo Ann Williams, son Terry Williams, daughter Wendy Inez Brown, grandsons Joshua Brown, wife Larisa and Adam Brown, brother James Williams, sister, Gloria January and husband Jack, numerous nieces, nephews and Gus our beloved dog.
Pallbearers are Terry Williams, Joshua Brown, Adam Brown, James Williams, Eric Swanson and Johnny Johnson.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to the ICU unit at Providence Hospital, especially Dr. Matthew Patillo and the nurses. We would also like to say a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Nick Schwedock and the nurses at Providence Hospice Place at St Catherine’s.
