Tommy Cardwell

July 17, 1928 — July 16, 2014

Tommy L. Cardwell, 85 of Woodway, died peacefully Wednesday, July 16, 2014. Services will be 12 p.m. Saturday, July 19, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home with the Rev. Micheal Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 18, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive.
Tommy was born on July 17, 1928 in Houston to Ruby Lillian Bowden and Raymond L. Cardwell. He graduated from Waco High School in 1946. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. and served in World War II and the Korean War. Upon returning home from World War II he married his sweetheart, Bobbie J. Burmingham in Waco on July 24, 1948. Tommy began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in August 1948 as a Cable Splicer Helper and worked his way up to Staff Specialist-Business Repair and retired after a long successful career in September, 1985.
After retirement Tommy and Bobbie enjoyed travelling in their motor home and spending time with family and friends. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Robinson and served as Deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member. Tommy was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Cecil McMinn; uncle, Howard Day; and aunt, Mae Day.
Tommy is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bobbie of Woodway; daughter, Sandra Cardwell Tindell and husband, Kenneth Tindell, of Robinson; granddaughter, Whitney Tindell Clark and husband, Justin Clark, of Hutto; aunt, Patsy Ruth and husband, Linden Sims, of Lumberton; brothers, Cecil and Bobby McMinn; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Royal Manor II and Southern Care Hospice.
