Thelma Baker, 91, went to be with her Lord Jesus in heaven on Thursday, December 22, 2016. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Oakwood Cemetery, Waco. The family will receive visitors 5 – 7:00 p.m., Monday, Dec. 26, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco.
Thelma was born September 25, 1925 to Shermon and Mabel Bocock. She married Oatis Hugaboom on June 16, 1948 and was a homemaker until his death in March 1968. Thelma then moved to Oklahoma and lived in several communities until she married Dwight Baker on May 10, 1974. They settled in Fairview, OK where she worked at several cafes as a waitress. Dwight died in April 1978 at which time Thelma went to work as a field agent for Opportunities, Inc., an agency that provided aid for those in need. She also volunteered to cook and serve many of the residents of Blain County at Christmas. She had many great friends that she missed dearly when she moved to Waco, TX, in 2000, to be near to her daughter and son-in-law. Thelma moved to Westview Manor Nursing facility in McGregor in 2013, where she received great treatment from the wonderful staff and where she made many friends.
Thelma preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Nettie Bocock; sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Cecil Carpenter; grandsons Otis Farmer and Terry Allen Farmer; and daughter-in-law, Sharon Miller, all of Kansas.
Thelma is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Mary and Kenneth Campbell; son, Frank Farmer, of Kansas; granddaughters Debbie Fowler and husband Christopher of Phoenix, AZ, Teresa Wiegand and husband Paul of Menasha, WI, and Lynette Farmer of California; grandson Jerry Farmer, of California; nieces Patricia Feekan of Phoenix, AZ, Carolyn Clark of California, Vada Carpenter and husband John of Wichita, KS; along with numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at Westview Manor in McGregor for taking such great care of Thelma, the staff at Bluebonnet Hospice, especially her case worker, Lawrence, and the many others who took good care of her.
