Susie Hernandez (Padilla) Bass was greeted by her Lord and Savior on July 17, 2022. She was surrounded by her loving husband and close family when she was called to her heavenly home. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 21, at Latin American United Methodist Church, 1320 Webster Ave., Waco, TX. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Officiants will be her nephews, Rev. Rumaldo Jimenez and Chavelo Jimenez. The family will receive visitors from 6 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 20, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco.
Susie was born in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, Mexico on December 25, 1945, Christmas day, and given the name La Natividad de Jesus Hernandez. She later legally changed her name to Susie when she became a naturalized American citizen in 1974. Susie will be remembered for her wit, laughter, and love for everyone she knew. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Susie was a lifetime member of Latin American United Methodist Church and always very proud to say her mother was one of the founding members. She was a true believer. Her commitment to her Lord, Jesus Christ, and his teachings will also be greatly remembered and sorely missed.
She was preceded in death by her beloved mother Maria de Jesus Hernandez, brothers Matthew Hernandez and wife Josie, and Ruben Hernandez, sister, Rachel Padilla, and her beloved daughter, Linette Padilla Hagar.
She is survived by her husband, Nelson Bass, who loved her dearly and will forever be heartbroken. Also, to cherish her memory is her son, Giovanni (Gino) Padilla, and her step-sons and their wives, James (Alison) Bass, Steve (Marcy) Bass, and Ryan Bass. Grandchildren Jonathon Gayton, Amaya and Nico Padilla, and Ivy Coffee, great-grandson Antonio Gayton, with another on the way, along with many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Other survivors who will greatly miss her are her sister, Angelina Jimenez, numerous nieces and nephews, and a large extended family whom she loved very much.
Pallbearers will be her nephews: Rudy Hernandez, Steve Hernandez, Tomas Hernandez, Miguel Jimenez, Randy Hernandez, and Frank Jimenez. Honorary pallbearers are Chavelo Jimenez, Rumaldo Jimenez, Jamie Velasquez, Rumaldo L. (Dondo) Jimenez and grandsons Jonathan Gayton and Nico Padilla.
