Longtime Robinson resident, S L “Shorty” King, 88, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family members, on March 29, 2015, at the age of eighty-eight years and two months. Mr. King was born in Spur, Texas, on January 29, 1927.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Robinson Cemetery, Robinson, Texas. Rev. Jerry Freedman, pastor of the Bethel Methodist Church of Robinson will conduct the service. Visitation will be at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 N Robinson Drive, Waco, Texas on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
Shorty and Elizabeth LaVerne Thrash were married on April 10, 1948 in Downsville, Texas. To their union were born six children. He was a longtime member of the Downsville Baptist Church.
Survivors include LaVerne, his wife of 66 years, his daughter Patricia Lanette Hooper, and husband Michael of Golinda, Texas, sons Randall Carl King and wife, Denise of Waxahachie, Texas, Larry Gene King of Austin, Texas, David Alan King of Austin, Texas, and Robert Mark King and wife, Tina of Liberty Hill, Texas, and by a brother, Howard King and wife, Stella of Tennessee, and Mary Lee Lathern of Waco, Texas. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Yvonna Rae Osborne, by his parents, Samuel Lee and Mary Alice King, and by brothers Paul King, J T King, Woodrow King, and Gene King, and by sisters Delores King Trout and Billie King Valentine.
He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons, Chris Alaminski, Sean Medlin, Heath Wigley, Jeremy Medlin, Josh Medlin, Brandon King, Jordan Hooper, Garrett King, Cody King, Derek King and Justin King.
