Rufus Reyes Tovar, Jr., age 87 of Waco passed away peacefully into the loving arms of our Lord Jesus Christ in his home of Waco Texas surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday, July 19, 2023. Graveside services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, August 3 at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas. The family will have a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 26 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home with rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Rufus was born December 26, 1935 to Rufus Tovar Sr. and Benita Reyes Tovar in Rosebud, Texas. Rufus was a member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for over 66 years and a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as an usher for many years. Rufus served in the United States Army National Guard Reserve over 21 years. He loved camping, fishing, boat riding, and taking vacations with family for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Tovar Sr. and Benita Reyes Tovar; siblings, Lupe Tovar, John Tovar, Mary Garcia, Sam Tovar & Felix Tovar.
Rufus is survived by his wife, Faye Tovar; four daughters and son: Rose DeLeon and husband Andrew, Linda Alvarez, Steve Tovar and wife Judy, Christina Vargas and husband Hector, and Theresa Salinas and husband Jimmy; eleven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; along with his siblings, nieces, and nephews; sister, Andrea Ledesma.
We deeply appreciate Interim Healthcare Home Care and Hospice staff. Rufus was a true fighter and inspiration to his family. He will be dearly missed.
