Rev. Ruben DeLaCruz, 79, of Waco, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2010, in Waco. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, April 17, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Dr. Burial will follow at Santa Cruz Cemetery in Riesel. A prayer service will be 7 p.m., Friday evening, April 16, at the funeral home with visitation following.
Ruben was born March 2, 1931, in Horton, Texas, to Estaban and Maria DeLaCruz. He attended Waco schools and graduated from TSTC. He served in the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War and was a POW for 38 months in Korea. He was an Evangelistic Minister and a member of La Hermosa Iglesia in Waco. Ruben married Rosa Fuentes in Waco, Aug. 1, 1986. He was also a song writer and professional musician, playing in many church's around the country. Many of the songs he wrote have been published and are being used in church hymnals today.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lela Mendez; sisters, Elizabeth Esquivel and Febe Figueroa; brothers, Benjamin, Estaban and David DeLaCruz.
He is survived by his wife, Rosa DeLaCruz; sons, Estaban, Ruben David, Raul, Ricardo and Michael Joseph DeLaCruz; daughters, Yolanda Charles, Deborah Dallas, Susan Tunniclif, Sandra Cruz; brother, Daniel DeLaCruz; sister, Delia DeLaCruz Vega; five step-sons; and two step-daughters; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
