Roy Lee Nichols

October 29, 1933 — October 6, 2024

Roy Lee Nichols, 90, of Robinson, Texas passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2024. A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 14th at 10:00 am, at Waco Memorial Park officiated by George Ohmstede. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, October 13th from 3:00-5:00 pm at Pecan Grove Funeral Home.

Roy was born on October 29, 1933, to Buena Vista and John Tipton Nichols of Llano, Texas. He graduated from McGregor High School.

Roy married Dora Zettler on November 4, 1954, and they had two children, Jack and Melinda. Roy worked as a machinist at what became known as Hercules in McGregor building parts for rockets. He was a long-time resident of Robinson, Texas and served in many capacities including president of the Chamber of Commerce, coached multiple years in the Robinson Little League, and was an avid member of St. John United Church of Christ.

He enjoyed working on his farm, wood-working, fishing, hunting, and traveling with his friends and family. He also loved watching the Baylor Bears; he was even a ticket-taker for years. In his more recent years, he enjoyed learning about his family history. He loved cooking for his family and would call them up to invite them to dinner, especially when he was making stew. He would do anything for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He had many hobbies and interests, but by far, his favorite thing to do was watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all of their activities; he was their biggest fan.

Roy was a man of character, he was honest, sometimes to a fault, loving, kind, generous, funny, sincere, and had the best smile. He would help anyone in need and loved talking to people. He was a hard worker and instilled that, along with many of his other characteristics, in his children and grandchildren. He is going to be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, John and Buena; two sisters, Lorene and Louise; two brothers James and Martin, and his wife of 67 years, Dora. He is survived by his son, Jack Nichols and wife Tamra; daughter, Melinda Moss and husband Taylor; his grandchildren Stephanie Barrera and husband Kevin, Tiffany Hogg and husband Kyle, Michael Nichols, Beau Moss and wife Renee, Amber Earl and husband Kevin; Nephew Darrell Zettler and wife Kim, great-nephew David Zettler and wife Kayla, great-niece Sarah Sheehy and husband Jeremey; great-grandchildren: Aaron and Aiden Barrera, Taylor, Brynlee and Kyle Hogg, Makenzi and Christian Moss, Wesley McLeod, and Arvid Earl.
