Robert Lee Williams Jr. 92 of Robinson passed away August 8, 2013 in a local hospital. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 12 at Oakwood Cemetery with Deacon James Pool officiating. Visitation with the family will be 4-6pm Sunday at Pecan Grove Funeral Home 3124 Robinson Drive. Mr. Williams was born November 21, 1920 in Handley, Texas to the late Robert L. and Lola Robertson Williams. He attended school in Handley until the family moved to Waco, Texas for his father’s job in the 1930’s. Mr. Williams graduated from Waco High School and voluntarily enlisted in the Navy in 1942. He was stationed at the United States Receiving Station in San Diego, California which was the incoming and outgoing military members of the Pacific Theater. Mr. Williams received the rank of Ships Cook First Class. He served 35 years as a cook at the San Diego Naval Training Station and at the Waco Veterans Hospital Mr. Williams retired November 21, 1975. He worked diligently every Christmas and New Year’s holiday to ensure that the brave veterans were served a perfectly roasted turkey for their holiday meal. His hobbies included dominoes, gardening, woodworking, making tree branch reindeer for the neighborhood kids for every Christmas, and high school sports. It was not uncommon to see Mr. Williams and his wife cheering the Robinson Rockets/Rockettes on at almost every sports function. He was loved from all of the players of the teams that he cheered on . Mr. Williams married the love of his life Kathryn F. Williams on March 23, 1947 He was preceded in death by his sister Gwenda Smith and his brother C.F. Williams. Mr. Williams is survived by his wife of 66 years Kathryn (Jimmie) Pechacek Williams of Robinson; two daughters that he truly adored Liz Walker and her husband Ray of Robinson, Kay Gann and her husband Barry of Robinson ;grandchildren Katelyn Walker of Robinson, Brady Gann of Waco, Dustin Gann of Robinson, and Kaci Gann of Waco. Honorary daughter Lisa Maxwell and husband Ricky of Robinson. He is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
