Emblem

Robert Sykora passed away on March 22, 2025, after a lengthy battle with Lewy body dementia. Throughout it all, Robert maintained his faith, his humor, and his love of family.

Robert was born on November 11, 1941, in Waco, TX. He attended University High School and was drafted into the Army in 1963. He served at Ft. Polk, LA, where he drove transport trucks. After discharge from the Army, he returned to Waco where he married Barbara Meece Sykora. They moved to Dallas where they had a son, Robert, Jr. They lived in Dallas some 35 years before moving to Van Alstyne and making it their retirement home. Robert was known for his love of life, his sense of humor, his generosity and willingness to give a helping hand to family and friends. A day on the lake fishing was his idea of a perfect day.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, John A. Sykora, Sr., and Julia Pavelka Sykora; his sister, Anne Sykora Payne; his brother, John Sykora; his nephew, John Allen Sykora; and twin grandsons, Trevor and Blake Sykora.

Robert's impact will live on in the lives of his wife of 59 years, Barbara Meece Sykora; their son, Robert, Jr., and wife, April; his beloved granddaughters, Amanda and Allison Sykora; and his first great-grandson, Azriel Coates, who is six months old and who recently came to visit him from Salt Lake City. And oh, what a visit that was. Also surviving are his brother, Jimmy Ray Sykora, and wife, Cyndi; sisters Helen Province and Dorothy Sykora, along with many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the employees of The Homestead of Sherman who cared for Robert during his illness and to Concord Hospice who assisted him in his final days.

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home at 3124 Robinson Dr., Waco, TX 76706.
