Robert S. (Bobby) Soukup, 74, of Rosenthal, passed away Friday, January 29, 2016 at home following a long battle with cancer of 15 years. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 2, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, followed by a visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 3, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1401 Washington Ave, Waco, with Father Joe Geleney, Jr. officiating, assisted by Deacons James Poole and Frank Jasek. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Bobby was born May 11, 1941 at home on Mother’s Day to James Adolph (Jim) and Victoria (Urban) Soukup in Rosenthal. He married Cecilia Schroeder in Tours on November 14, 1964.
Bobby was a jack of all trades and a master at all. He was a former cotton ginner in Golinda, Levi area and O’Donnell. He farmed and had his own trucking business at one time. He was a truck driver at AMPI and later went to work as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver for Pct. 1, McLennan County where he retired in May 2010. He was a natural born truck driver and mechanic. He could fix anything with an engine and drive anything that had wheels. He loved polka music----happy music for happy people.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jim and Victoria Soukup; brothers, Henry, Eddie, and Jimmie; sister-in-law, Annette Soukup; parents-in-law, Frank and Annie Schroeder.
Bobby is survived by his wife of 51 years, Cecilia; sons, Robert F. Soukup of Abilene and Major Henry Soukup, USMC and wife, Rhiannon of California; grandson, Colton Joe Soukup; sisters-in-law, Bettie (Soukup) Dudley and husband, Doug of Sugar Land, and LaDema Soukup of Corpus Christi; aunt, Lynn Urban of Waco; plus several nieces and nephews.
