Robert Rash

Bob passed away peacefully with family by his side on the evening of February 11, 2013.
A World War II Navy Veteran, Bob served on LST 118 in the pacific theater coming near to losing his life many times. He was present when McArthur landed in the Philippines and witnessed a sniper attempt on McArthur’s life. A Ship’s electrician in the Pacific, Bob worked in the Sea Bees toward the end of his time in the Navy. Back home, he worked at General Electric for 39 years until his retirement. He was a sound tester for large transformers there. He served as a Trustee at Hancock Baptist Church in his home town of Hancock, Massachusetts. He was a member of the local school board, and a volunteer fireman. Everyone knew Bob at Jiminy Peak Ski Resort where he worked some of the lifts, and was one of the original “Hot Dogger’s” as he skied down the mountain on his hand-made Barrel Staves, doing loops all the way down!
Bob was a father of four, a grandfather to five and great-grandfather to nine.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Raymond and Donald, and his sister Doris.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patricia (Pat), his children, son David Rash of Hancock, MA, daughter Corinne Thomas of Florida, daughter Laurie Thurston of Waco, TX and son Matthew Rash of Metter, GA , five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial will be held at Lakewood Christian Church (Bosque at Cobbs) on Saturday, February 16 at 2:00 pm.
A Military memorial is planned in late June at the Hancock Cemetery in Hancock, Massachusetts.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Lakewood Christian Church or Texas Home Health Hospice.
