Robert G. Olson passed away on July 11, 2016. Services will be 10 AM Friday July 15th, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 2000 Clay Ave, Waco, TX 76706, with Pastor Jim Price officiating. Burial will follow at Mart Cemetery in Mart, Texas. Visitation will be at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, Thursday July 14, from 6-8PM.
Robert was born on August 7, 1935 to Catherine Olson in St. Paul, Minnesota. He graduated from Aurora High School in 1954 and immediately joined the Air Force. He served for 20 years as a Supply Tech and finally as a Survival Instructor. He had tours in Japan, North Africa, and the Philippines. State Side duty took him to the Francis Warren AFB, Gunter AFB, Wright Patterson AFB, Fairchild AFB, James Connally AFB, Reno AFB, Dover AFB, Homestead AFB.
On July 5, 1958, he and Patsy Teichelman were married at Grace Lutheran Church in Mart by Pastor Theodore Griesse. The family moved 15 times while serving in the Air Force. After retirement from service, they moved to Robinson in 1974. He continued serving the military community by working at the Waco VA Regional Office, later he was the Regional Director for AMVETS, and then returned to the VA Regional Office where he served in the phone room. He eventually decided to slow down and continue tending the family farm where he was called home. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church since 1974, where he served on several church boards.
He is preceded in death by infant son Ronald Olson; mother, Catherine Olson; and his father and mother-in law, Otto and Emma Teichelman.
Robert is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patsy Olson, of Robinson; daughters, Cindy Brem and husband Edward of Hewitt and Judy Brown and husband Chris of Hewitt; son, Dale Olson and wife Jennifer of Robinson; six grandchildren, Christopher Brem and wife Lindsey, Aaron Brem, Krisan Brown, Robert Brown, Jared Olson, and Haley Olson; sisters-in-law, Vera Reed of Houston, Nancy Pavelka and husband Marvin, of Marlin, and Molly Kelinske and husband Larry, of Bruceville; brother-in-law, Palmer Teichelman and wife Narcy, of Lufkin; along with a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Brem, Aaron Brem, Robert Brown, Jared Olson, Jerry Reed, and Tony Teichelman. Honorary bearers are Ed Brem and Chris Brown.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church.
