Robert Gene (Bob) Niesen, 84, a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on Monday, April 5, 2021. Bob was born in Cego, Texas on November 11, 1936 to Rosa (Koerth) and John Niesen. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sammie; his parents; and his older brother Lee. He is survived by his daughter, Vicki Niesen (Jamal); sons Jody Niesen (Jennifer) and Barry Niesen (Gina); and his grandsons, Sam Sandarusi, Kasey Sandarusi and Benjamin Niesen.
Bob graduated from Chilton High School in 1955 where he met his future wife, Sammie Bennett, of Chilton, Texas in the sixth grade. They were married on January 12, 1957 and shortly before his death, they celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.
They moved to northwest New Mexico from Waco, Texas in 1962 where Bob was employed in the natural gas industry for more than 30 years before his retirement. They retired in Fort Sumner, New Mexico where they enjoyed the small-town peaceful life.
While in Fort Sumner, Bob served on numerous community boards, including The Fort Sumner Irrigation District; The De Baca Family Practice Board of Directors; and The Village of Fort Sumner Municipal Water System.
Bob and Sammie enjoyed spending time on their alfalfa and pecan farms and raising cattle during their retirement years. Bob will be remembered as a kind yet strong soul. He loved being with his family, friends, dog – Shadow, and his tractor.
