Robert Wayne Herring, 72, of Elm Mott, passed away suddenly in his home Wednesday, February 22nd 2017. A memorial service will be held 1pm Monday February 27, 2017 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Dr. Waco, with Pastor David Cozart officiating.
Robert was born January 14, 1945 to Charles T. and Lena Herring. He grew up in Swisher County, Texas and graduated from Tulia High School in 1963. His grandparents arrived in Swisher County in 1916 to build a life for themselves and future generations in farming. The farm has been in the Herring family for over 100 years. After graduating high school, Robert married his first wife Shirley in 1965. When Shirley passed in a tragic accident on July 3, 1976, Robert raised their 3 young children, Allan, Mark, and Leah. He moved to Waco in the late 1990s and became owner and operator of Herring Construction and Remodeling in Waco, Texas.
Robert met his wife Donna and they married August 24, 2006. The two loved the outdoors, especially their trips to Colorado where they would fish, watch wildlife, and listen to the river from their cabin.
Robert, with his wife, was an active member of Heart of Texas APA pool league where he was known and loved by so many. He was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan despite any nay-sayers. Robert was a skilled craftsman and woodworker, as well as an archaeology enthusiast; he worked the Herring family land with his daughter Leah and together they found numerous Indian artifacts. He bowled in Plainview league in for years and won 3rd place one year in a father-daughter competition. He was known by so many as one of the most generous and caring people anyone could ever meet.
