Robert Brown

Robert “Doug” Douglas Brown, 95, passed away Monday, July 18, 2022, in Waco, Texas. He was born September 3, 1926, in Loraine, TX, to Joseph Robert and Etta Mae (Foy) Brown.
Doug was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Vernon, TX. A proud veteran of World War II, Doug served his country in the U.S. Navy. He and his wife, June, were very active in raising animals after retirement. Doug was involved in the American Council of Spotted Asses, a member of the American Kennel Club raising French Bulldogs and raising registered Brangus cattle. He was a multi-engine private pilot. He and June previously managed the McGregor airport and sold airplanes. While living in Vernon, Doug was a past president of the Vernon Chamber of Commerce, served on the founding board of Wilbarger General Hospital, a member of the rotary club, and was a founding board member and the first chairman of the VRJC.
Doug was preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Billie June Brown; his parents; two sons, Steve Brown and Monty Brown; sister, Jean Miller; and one grandson, Robert Brown.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Charlotte Brown, of Huntsville, Arkansas; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Benton Sosolik, of Waco, Texas; daughter-in-law, Jan Brown; seven grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Pecan Grove Funeral Home, Waco, TX.
