Robert Barkley

Robert Calvin Barkley, age 78, passed from this earth Tuesday, May 22, 2017, at his home in Hillsboro, TX. Funeral services will be 10 am Sat. May 27 at Robinson Church of Christ, 428 Chado Ln., Robinson, with Brad Simon officiating. Burial will follow at 3pm at Downing Cemetery.
Robert was born in Brownwood, TX in 1938 to Nita Myrle and Calvin Barkley. He graduated from Abilene Christian University in 1962, from the University of Texas in 1966 with a degree in pharmacy. He and his brother, David, owned a drug store in Santa Anna, TX.
He and Diane attended Robinson Church of Christ in Robinson, TX and they reside in Hillsboro, TX.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Nita Myrle Ussery Barkley, his father, Joseph Calvin Barkley and a brother, David Barkley.
He leaves his wife of 57 years, Diane Barkley; two children, James Barkley of Houston and his wife, Patricia; Debbie Ortega and her husband, Jeff, of Dixon, TN; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; brother, Roy Barkley of Pflugerville, and several nephews.
Robert founded Doulos International, a non-profit organization dedicated to missions in India and Africa in 2000.
In Lieu of Floral arrangements, the family is asking that contributions be made to Doulos International (www.doulosinternational.org) for the support of mission work headed by James Bennala in India.
