Bobby was born November 26, 1942 in San Antonio, Texas to Frances Louise (Hinson) and Bernice Walter Atkinson. Bobby and his family settled in the Lorena area where Bobby attended Lorena Schools and met and married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Judy Perry. Together they shared a 52 year love story.
Bobby enlisted and served his country in the United States Marine Corps beginning in 1962 and advanced to the highest rank of a non-commissioned officer - Master Gunnery Sergeant. As a dedicated Marine and Patriot, he served over 30 years in the USMC reserves retiring at the end of Desert Storm. Bobby was also a decorated USMC marksman. Oorah!
Bobby was employed by the Missouri Kansas Texas/Union Pacific railroad for over 39 years and somewhere along the way the nickname “Sarge” took hold and it was by which everyone knew him.
An avid, almost maniacal fan of Baylor basketball (Men and Women’s) Bobby and Judy attended games home and away. In between Baylor basketball seasons, Bobby enjoyed all forms of auto racing and attended to his much loved menagerie of animals.
A devoted and proud father and grandfather, Bobby loved any time spent with his children and grandchildren. Over the last 40 years it was the norm to see Bobby at school or sporting events supporting his children or grandchildren. Not to be excluded are the lifelong friends Bobby enjoyed seeing at their Friday night supper club get togethers. Bobby was an active member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church and Men’s Sunday school.
Bobby was proceeded in death by his parents; daughter, Stacy Ann; brother, James E. Atkinson; father-in-law, C.H. Perry; and most recently his brother-in-law, H.F. “Punkin” Redding.
