R. J. Curlee Jr., 91, of Robinson, passed away June 18, 2014. Services will be 10:00am Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home Chapel 3124 Robinson Dr. with Pastor Mike Moore officiating. Burial will follow at the Robinson Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Friday, June 20, 2014 from 6 to 8 pm at Pecan Grove Funeral Home.
He was known as “June” to his family; “Curlee” to his friends and co-workers; and “PeePa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
R.J. was born February 18, 1923 to Rufus James Curlee Sr. and Florence Curlee in Pendleton, Texas. He married Doris Louise Whyburn on October 30, 1941 and they lived most of their lives in and around Robinson. He was no stranger to hard work, which begin at the age of 16 tending to the farm after his Dad passed away. He continued farming for many years and later worked for the Texas Highway Department retiring after 25 years of service. With a kind heart love, respect, discipline, and hard work were things that he taught his children.
A favorite hobby was to camp along the riverbank and trotline fishing. After retirement, time was spent playing dominos, drinking coffee, joking with others on his early morning stops at the coffee shop, and playing with the neighbor’s dog. He was a member for many years of Third Street Baptist Church and later a member of the Robinson Baptist Church. The love of his life was his wife Doris, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
His wife, Doris, after 67 years of marriage, 1 sister, and 2 brothers, precedes him in death.
He is survived by his son, Buster and his wife Karen; daughter, Nancy Warren and her husband Jerry; all of Robinson. Two grandchildren, Don Curlee, wife Leslie and Shannon Ebbinghaus, husband Bob; 4 great-grandchildren, Austin, Will, Abby and Brenna all of Round Rock.
