Ricky was born to Richard and Darlene Cockrell of Waco on June 29, 1965. He got to share a birthday with his father! They sure loved celebrating this together eating red velvet cake. Ricky was a graduate of Crawford High School Class of 1984. If you knew Ricky, you knew he lived a fast life full of laughter! He was always on the go and enjoyed being the life of the party! If Ricky was there, fun was being had and noise was being made! He loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting pool, watching football and street outlaws, talking on the phone, caring for his bubba’s chickens, eating his sisters cooking, taking care of his mama and daddy, going to church and most of all spending time with his kids and being the best pops. We must not forget his nightly “current situations” and “I woke up like this” posts on Facebook.
Ricky was so proud of his job! He worked up until he couldn’t any longer and they had to beg him to stop. He thoroughly enjoyed going to work every day. Big Creek Construction was his dream! Really, he LOVED going to work and seeing his friends, slingin’ mud and messing on the radio.
He was a walking testimony of a changed life in Christ. Ricky had such a love for Jesus and knew the word. He would pray for anyone who needed and loved like Jesus does. He and his family knew the day he passed he went straight up to the arms of Jesus dancing and singing.
He was preceded in death by Thomas Cockrell, Jewel Michum, Gene and Dottie Ann Thorp.
He is survived by parents, Richard and Darlene Cockrell, brother, Roger Cockrell, sister, Deanna and husband Jason Metzgar and their children Richard Metzgar, Raylee and husband Jonathan Moore, numerous other nieces and nephews, mother of his children, Tamara Cunningham, children, Jennifer and husband Donald Holt, Dustin and wife Lorin Cockrell, grandbabies, Ellie Mae and Sawyer Grace Cockrell, Hunter and Harleigh Fray, and Tatum and Addyson Holt.
