Rex Edward Stanford, 76, of Waco, TX, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2021. A visitation with family and friends will be Thursday, July 29, from 6 – 8:00, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco.
Rex lived a very simple life. His daily routine started out with a cup of coffee, a drive to the lake to count deer, followed by lunch and a nap. Rex loved fishing, the outdoors, and his companionship with his beloved pets; especially his dog “Teddy”. He was a very accomplished bass fisherman, winning many tournament titles in the Central Texas area. If there was a tournament, Rex was there. You could always read about him in Earl Golding’s Waco Trib Outdoor column. Toledo Bend was one of his favorite lakes to fish, and the place where he has asked for his family to spread his, and his beloved “Teddy’s” ashes.
In April, Rex fell ill. Being the proud and independent man that he was, did his best on living his life with this new founded limited ability. He was strong and courageous to the very end.
He is preceded in death by his parents LT and Julia Florence Stanford.
Rex is survived by his wife, Frances Cargill Stanford; sons Mike and wife Diana Stanford of China Spring; Brian and wife Kelli Stanford of Austin; stepdaughters Cindy Rowland of Houston; Casie Cargill of Waco; grandchildren, Jessica, Krystal, Savannah, Rachael, Travis, Victoria, Ethan, Dustin, Devin and Danielle.
Special Thanks to Interim Hospice, Comfort Keepers, his wife Frances and his daughter-in-law Diana on helping him live out his final days at home. He will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Central Texas.
