Celebration of Life services for Mr. Phillip Shaw, 80, of Waco, will be at 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, August 15, 2021 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home chapel in Waco.
Phillip went to be with the Lord on August 5, 2021 at Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest Hospital. He was born April 11, 1941 in Marlin, Texas to the late Viola Ethridge and Ernest Gay Shaw. Phillip met Evelyn Talent at the First Baptist Church in San Lorenzo, California. They married on July 10, 1959 and enjoyed 62 wonderful years together. He retired from Luminant, having worked as a Plant Mechanic at the Big Brown Power Plant in Fairfield, Texas. He previously worked at Owens Illinois in Waco and received his journeyman’s license in Alameda, California after serving a four-year apprenticeship. In addition, he worked at Anchor Hocking Glass Plant in Houston, Texas. Phillip was ordained and served as a deacon at First Baptist of Riesel and he also served at Emmanuel Baptist church in Fairfield, Texas. He was active in prison ministry and a foster parent to three children. He had a passion working professionally and a “do it yourselfer” at home. His life was a living testimony of his faith and walk with Christ. He spent his life serving others.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Marcus, Robert, Cecil, David Ross, Betty Casey, Nelda Huckaby and Jackie “Sprout” Shaw.
Survivors include: his wife, Evelyn Ann (Talent) Shaw of Waco; children, Tim Shaw and wife Jan of Bryan; Tom Shaw and wife Kim of Saint Hedwig, and Scott Shaw of Lindale; twelve grandchildren, Josh Shaw, Jennifer Williams, Hailey Kolbe, Hannah Long, Jacob Shaw, Micah Shaw, Lexi Bates, Kyleigh Gleaves, Keatyn Gleaves, Abby Shaw, Haley Shaw and Hope Shaw; twelve great-grandchildren, in addition to one on the way, Baby Long; he is also fondly remembered by his siblings, Hilda Shermer, Billy Shaw, Sr. and wife Deanie, Pamela Garrison and husband Gary and many other relatives whom he dearly loved.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions to be made in memory of Phillip to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital (www.stjude.org ) in which they are long standing supporters and the Texas Ramp Project (www.texasramps.org ), an organization that builds wheelchair ramps for the disabled, including the ramp for Phillip and Evelyn. They would like to continue this legacy of these outstanding charitable organizations.
