Paul was born on September 29, 1944 to James Hennigan and Virgie Tilley Hennigan in Leesville, Louisiana. As a child he spent time with his siblings and cousins playing outside in a little village in Vernon Perish known as Anacoco, Louisiana where they lived. At the age of 9, he moved with his father, mother, 3 sisters and brother to Waco, Texas where he resided for the remainder of his life. Paul graduated from University High School in 1962.
In 1963, Paul married his high school sweet heart, Betty June Saulters. Together they created a beautiful life for their four children: Anthony, Kim, Jennifer and Vicki.
Paul was a great example to his children through his dedication to family and his commitment to hard work. He was a loving father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, coach, mentor, and a great friend to all. He enjoyed coaching and was a coach to many. His passion for coaching started when he was 19 and didn’t stop until he took his final breath. He coached many sports from Pee Wee Football, to baseball, to softball, back to baseball, to softball, again. His love, though, was with teaching girls how to fast pitch and this relationship lasted well over 35 years. Paul’s ability to coach and mentor many young athletes earned him a spot in the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.
Paul was self-employed for many years working in construction and raising and racing greyhounds. He learned to build at a young age and carried this skill with him for many years. He started in the greyhound business in the late 1970’s and had great success in this business serving on the Texas Greyhound Board of Directors. Paul was an exceptional writer. He compiled many pages of family genealogy, wrote poetry and even wrote a few songs. He was very competitive and loved playing cards, corn hole and many other games with and against his kids and grandkids. He enjoyed playing golf for many years and when he could find time, he would make his way down to the tank to fish.
Paul is reunited in Heaven with his wife, Betty Hennigan; son, Michael Wayne Hennigan; his parents, James and Virgie Hennigan; his brother, David Hennigan; his sisters, Virginia Pyatt and Sharon Paul.
