Owen “Ray” Hassell, 85, of Robinson, passed peacefully from this earth to Heaven on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be at 1pm Saturday, Jan 16 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Dr., Waco, with Chaplain Sarah Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Waco Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 pm, Friday, Jan 15 at the funeral home.
“Ray” was born November 10, 1930 to Verner and Marie Hassell in Limestone County. “Sonny” was a devoted husband to his bride Dottie Hassell for nearly 59 years. Ray was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran and served his country in the Korean War. He retired as an electrician from the Waco V.A. Hospital. He was a hero and daddy to four children, Ronnie Eskew and wife Beth, Cindy Sykora and husband Jimmy, Glenn Ray Hassell and wife Lisa, and Debbie Wills and husband Larry. He was known as “Poppy” to his eight grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren, and was known to brag a little and love a lot.
He is preceded in death by his parents and six sisters; Christina Hull, Geraldine Neal, Vivian Wines, Venita McCarley, Betty Nolantubby, and Shirley Fry.
