Opal Raines Holmes, 88, of Waco, went to be with the Lord Thursday, April 16, 2015. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 20, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors 2 – 4:00 p.m., Sunday, April 19, at the funeral home.
Opal was born December 31, 1926, in Bosque County, TX, to the late William and Sarah Raines. She graduated from Waco High and Four C Business College. She retired from HEB after 23 years and worked many more years with the Chapman family. Opal enjoyed serving the Lord with Spring Street Baptist Church and Kendrick Lane Baptist Church. She leaves a legacy of hard work, devotion to family, and love of Christ that will be remembered by all those who were honored to know and love her. As matriarch of her family, she instilled a work ethic and a sense of selflessness to her children and grandchildren, who were proud to call her Nanny and Nana Apple. Her family and friends respect and admire her for all she accomplished and all she gave her entire life.
Opal joins her departed parents, brothers, sisters, and son, Stanley Holmes, in life everlasting.
Opal is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Waller and husband Raymond; daughter-in-law, Linda Holmes; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Sean Holmes with Larkin, Amanda Howard and husband, Dwayne, Miranda Unger with Madison and Mason, Joshua Waller and wife Heather with Maci; and many loved nieces and nephews.
