Opal Henager

July 25, 1926 — December 23, 2020

Opal Allene Henager was a remarkable person with the capacity to love others without judgement. She exhibited compassion and Christ-like love to all who knew her. Her amazing legacy will continue on through our wonderful memories and stories of her. She was the best mother a person could ever ask for. Few can say their mother was the kindest person they know, but that is exactly what Doug, Beverly, Ronnie, and Kay can say. She constantly demonstrated the same compassion and love to her children’s spouses: Ann, Wayne, Judy, and Tom. What an amazing blessing she was to each of us; we are truly blessed to call her Our Dear Mother!
A woman of few words, she had a heart of gold. Her greatest joy was for her loved ones to be happy, and she went to great lengths to help them.
She grew up in a large family with her parents: Tom and Gertie Reeves and her seven siblings: Pauline, Ray, Louise, Lois, Dorothy, Clyde, and Shirley. She met a young sailor named Wayne Henager at a party given by his sister. Their marriage began months later in the front yard of their pastor’s home on December 6, 1941 and ended upon his death on August 6, 2008.
She worked hard all of her life—beginning as a young child picking cotton in the fields and ending with retirements from Owens Illinois Glass Plant and the City of Waco. After her second retirement, she volunteered with the Family Abuse Center Resale Store.
While there are not enough words to describe how dearly missed Mom will be, we have peace because we know she is walking with the Lord at this very moment.
Blessed to cherish her memory are her children: Doug/Ann, Beverly/Wayne, Ronnie/Judy, and Kay/Tom; ten grandchildren: Kevin/Tammy, Derek, Karri, Travis/Shell, Brandon, Debbie, Amy/Tony, Kyle, Kathy and Kristy/Brent; six great grandchildren: Ashley, Kade, Lauren, Michael, Justin and Emily Kaye; sister, Dorothy, and several nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Mom’s wishes, we will celebrate her amazing life on her birthday. In honor of her extraordinary giving nature, please send memorials to an organization designed to help those in need.
“I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.” John 11:25-26.
