Nancy Elgin Sparks, age 88, of Hewitt, passed away quietly in her sleep on Friday, December 8, 2017, in the care of the thoughtful, loving staff of Wesley Woods and Kindred Hospice. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, Dec. 18, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco, with Rev. Rick Aguilar, M.Div., SCC, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, starting at 9:00 a.m., at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Robinson Cemetery, 620 E. Stegall Drive, Robinson, TX.
Nancy was born February 8, 1929, to Carl H. and Mildred O. Elgin in Keokuk, Iowa. She retired after a long career as a federal employee and was a trailblazer for women’s rights before it became a national cause. She was one of the nation’s first female revenue agents for the IRS, a member and officer of NARFE, AARP, a private pilot, and a member of St. Jerome’s Catholic Church. Her crocheted afghans won many blue ribbons in county fairs in the Texas panhandle and northeastern Oklahoma.
Ms. Sparks was preceded in death by her parents; and son-in-law, John Morin.
She is survived by her daughter Carol Morin, of Hewitt; grandson, Nick Morin, of Robinson; granddaughter Amber Morin Adams and her husband Esequiel Adams of San Antonio; two brothers, George Elgin of Ft. Myers, FL, and Jack Elgin and wife Marilyn, of Upper Sandusky, OH; a niece and nephew with their spouses and their children and grandchildren, all of Ohio.
