Nancy Fikes

October 3, 1932 — December 26, 2024

Nancy Carol Fikes, a cherished mother, grandmother, and devoted community member, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2024 at the age of 92 in Conroe, Texas. Born October 3, 1932 in Mt. Calm, Texas to Edna and Ray Rush, she was a lifelong resident of Waco, Texas.

Nancy was the oldest of four children. She married the love of her life at 18. She was a loving and devoted mother to Diane and Nolan. She loved working at Walgreens in the cosmetology department. She was outgoing and vibrant. She formed deep relationships with her children and their friends. When her son suddenly passed, she stepped in and helped raise her granddaughters. She was a caregiver by heart, and she nursed and cared for many of her loved ones that passed before her.

Nancy was known for her red hair, radiant smile, honesty, integrity, fashion, humor, green thumb, broccoli casserole, and her huge heart and unconditional love. She found immense joy in traveling and being with family and friends. She loved all animals, especially dogs and birds. She was an active participant in her children’s and grandchildren’s classrooms and lives. Many of their peers still remember her Jello Jigglers and chocolate suckers. She made some of the greatest childhood memories for not only her kids and grandkids, but for their close friends too.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Alvin Fikes Jr; son, Nolan Fikes; siblings, Joann Harris, Linda Newton, Robert (Bobby) Rush, and parents, Edna and Ray Rush.

She is survived by her daughter, Diane Hamilton (Brett Hamilton), daughter in law, Kathy Fikes; grandchildren, Nichole Jaimes (Pedro Jaimes), Nakina Roberts (Jarrett Roberts), Brandon Hamilton (Ashlee Hamilton), and Tonia Moore (Jeremy Moore); great grandchildren, Kaelynna Fikes-Jaimes (Rodrigo Coronado), Amiyah Fikes-Jaimes, Araya Jaimes, Nolan Jaimes, Avelen Carol Jaimes, Esperanza Jaimes, Kaison Ray Roberts, Brooklyn Hamilton, London Hamilton, Kyler Griffith, and Azlen Moore; and numerous cherished loved ones, Recie, Honey family, Harper family, Adelia, Gonzales family, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 7th at Waco Memorial Park. There will be a visitation from 6 to 8:00 pm Monday, January 6th at Pecan Grove Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will follow at Meme’s cabin on January 7th at 4pm.
