Moman "Mo" Ashcraft

August 11, 1956 — January 1, 2023

Moman “Mo” Lee Ashcraft, 66, of Waco, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023. Mo was born August 11, 1956, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Ophelia Lyons and Anthony Edwin Ashcraft.

Visitation will be Monday, January 9, from 6-8pm at Pecan Grove Funeral Home located at 3124 Robinson Dr. in Waco, TX. The Memorial Service will be Tuesday, January 10, 2pm, also at Pecan Grove Funeral Home.

Among his greatest accomplishments, Mo’s highest source of pride and joy were his two daughters, Traci and Rachel, as he affectionately called them, “his girls.” It didn’t take long after meeting Mo that he’d be telling you all about his children and grandchildren. Raising his family in Riesel, Mo could be found at school functions, coaching the girls in softball, serving on the Riesel ISD Board, and being involved in anything his girls wanted to do. Whether it was playing Wahoo, dominoes, cards, board games, or basketball, Mo was a fierce competitor--but in the end, it was more about having fun than competing just to win. Mo loved dancing, shooting pool, watching the Three Stooges or a good western, and was a die-hard fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Baylor Bears.

Mo asked for so little and gave so very much. After a long shift at Gulf States Paper, Mo could often be found doing handyman work for his family, friends, and neighbors, claiming the phrase, “Mo Knows Odd Jobs.” In addition to being one of the hardest workers, Mo was the most giving and loyal person to all who knew him. He was the first to welcome folks into his home; he listened to conversations around him and, when he learned of a project someone needed help with, he showed up . . .never accepting payment because “the needs of others were always greater than his own.”

Mo was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed many years of deer hunting with his trusty 30-30, dove hunting, water skiing, fishing, pitching washers or playing a really good game of horseshoes, and realizing a lifelong dream of living in a houseboat on Lake Waco where he was free to be on the water all day long. Above all else, Mo was a friend, and he was certain to brighten your day with his contagious smile or one of his famous “Mo-isms.” He loved people and was the life of the party wherever he went.

Mo was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Ophelia Ashcraft, and three sisters, Barbara Abney and husband Lonnie, Mary Donelson and husband Ken, and Betty French and husband Larry.

Mo is survived by daughter, Traci and her husband, Brad Adcock, of Riesel; daughter, Rachel and her husband, Todd Barnett, of Ft. Worth; grandchildren Natalia, Maverick, Kymber, and Callen; brother, Kenneth Ashcraft of Bruceville, sister, Linda Roberts of Piggott, Arkansas, and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
