On Sunday, August 25, 2019, Mauricio “Mauro” Rivera Contreras, loving husband, father, son, brother and hardworking food manager, passed away at the age of 44.
Mauricio was born January 15, 1975 in Mexico City, Mexico to Yolanda Contreras and Santos Manuel Rivera, their last and sixth child. He came to the United States in the mid ‘90s and worked various jobs before settling into the food industry. He married the love of his life, Angelica Lopez, on October 20, 2001 and together they had the other loves of his life, his children, Angelina (17) and twins Mauricio and Sofia (14).
He worked for many years as an assistant manager at On the Border before moving on to assistant manager at Saltgrass Steak House until earlier this year. Mauro enjoyed his work, connecting with people, doing yardwork and occasional woodwork. He was known for being stubborn as heck and a demanding manager; but also, for being compassionate, loving, hardworking, and a mentor. Most of all he loved being with his family, whether it was a holiday, birthday party, random get together or just a lazy day with his immediate family.
He is survived by his wife, Angelica, his children, Angelina, Mauricio, and Sofia, his parents, Santos Manuel Rivera and Yolanda Contreras, his siblings, Elvia, Victor Manuel, Patricia, Leticia and Claudia, and several nieces and nephews.
His family wishes to thank friends and family for all the love, support, comfort and prayers that have been given in the past weeks. They ask that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Facebook page Mauricio’s Family Fundraiser.
