Martha Kettler

January 4, 1910 — July 9, 2013

Martha Frosch Kettler 103, passed away on July 9, 2013, in Lake Jackson, Texas. Services will be 11 am Monday, July 15, at St. John United Church of Christ, 100 S. Robinson Dr. with Pastors Scott Spence and Ron Krueger officiating. Burial will follow at Robinson Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Sunday from 6-8 pm at the Church.
Martha was born on January 4, 1910 in the Hillside community in the Robinson / Rosenthal area, to Charley Frosch and Minna Wuebker. Her father, mother, and two sisters died in the winter of 1918/1919 during the influenza pandemic. Martha and her two surviving brothers, Andrew and Charlie, were then reared by their uncle, Chris and wife Malinda Frosch. Her husband Herman Kettler, and her oldest son, Norman Kettler, also preceded her in death.
Martha lived in Robinson for the first 100 years of her life. She was an active life-long member of St. John United Church of Christ in Robinson, serving as a long-time Sunday School Teacher, member of the church choir, a member of the Women’s Guild and a faithful worker with the Tender Loving Quilters. She also served on Robinson’s City Council and as acting Mayor of the city. Martha was also active in Caritas, Meals on Wheels and Waco-McLennan County Retired Teachers Association.
While an employee of Baylor University, Martha attended classes on her noon lunch hour and eventually earned a BBA degree in 1956. She then entered graduate school, receiving a Master’s in Education and began a teaching career with Robinson ISD until retirement. She lived in the house that she and Herman built when they were married in 1927 and loved to work in the garden and flower beds until health factors led her to move to an assisted living facility in Sweeney, Texas, In July of 2010.
She is survived by her son, Weldon Kettler and wife LaVerne of Brazoria; daughter-in-law, Lucille Kettler of Houston; granddaughters, Gayle Kettler of Houston and Martha Webb and husband Dan of Brazoria; grandson, Dean Kettler and wife Catrina of Kent, WA; beloved great-grandson, Christopher Webb; niece Nancylu Frosch Roberts and husband Robert of Spring, TX; Martha also leaves a host of dear friends and relatives.
