Mark Edwin Dollar, 47, of Waco, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2016. A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 7, at First Presbyterian Church of Waco, 1100 Austin Ave, Waco.
Mark was born April 10, 1969, to William and Dorothy Wiley Dollar, in Plano Texas, where he was raised. After receiving his bachelor’s and master’s degree from Baylor University, he earned his doctorate from Purdue University. He spent over 20 years in professional administration and teaching. Mark treasured his work as a professor. He taught a variety of courses in global awareness, challenging his students to engage themselves in learning about other cultures and a world outside and different from their own. He was thrilled to come back to Waco to work at Baylor’s Center for Global Engagement as the Assistant Director for Study Abroad. It was a dream come true to be back with his Bears.
Mark’s greatest love was his family. He was a loving husband to wife Liz, and devoted father to William Michael and Sophia Elizabeth. Mark loved to travel, both with his wife and with his job at Baylor. He embraced all cultures and was passionate about meeting new people and having new experiences all over the world. He believed whole-heartedly in Jesus Christ and was an example of Christ’s teaching of love and peace to his children. He will always be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, William Dollar.
Mark is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Lee Dollar; his children, William Michael and Sophia Elizabeth; his mother, Dorothy Dollar; uncle, Jerry Dollar and wife Stacy; along with numerous nieces and cousins.
