Maria ‘Cuca’ Padilla was greeted with open arms by her Heavenly Father on Saturday, January 29, 2022. Born in Acambaro Guanajuato, Mexico in 1935 to Antonio and Anita Velasquez-Alfaro. She came to the United States of America as a young bride. She lived in Riesel, Texas the majority of her life. Everyone that knew Maria, loved her.
Maria’s great love was her family and loving the Lord. Her deep faith in God sustained her during difficult and joyous times. She was deeply loved by her family and we find comfort in knowing she’s now at peace and in Heaven celebrating the banquet of eternal life.
She also enjoyed cooking for her family as she spent the majority of her time in the kitchen, cooking up her specialties. Whether it was her homemade tortillas, homemade tamales, delicious enchiladas, or those wonderful buñuelos that she made every year on New Year’s Eve without fail.
Maria is preceded in death by her beloved husband Ruben Padilla, and daughter Lupe Padilla. She is survived by her eight children Maria Maldonado (and fiancé Jeff Davis), Margaret Padilla, Celia (and Robert) Stem, Ricky (and Maureen Aycock) Padilla, Anita (and Tilton) Hussey, Ruben (and Angie) Padilla, Becky (and Keith) Bitz, and Joe (and Kris) Padilla.
She loved to surround herself with all her children and grandchildren, great-grandchildren having lived to enjoy great great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco. She will be laid to rest beside her loving husband at the Riesel Cemetery in Riesel, Texas.
