Marceal was born September 3, 1923 in Haskell Texas. She was a graduate of Haskell High School in 1943 and married the love of her life, Charles Harlan Reeves on June 4, 1943. They were together 69 years until his death in 2012. Charles and Marceal established their home in Meridian, Texas where Charles worked with the Soil Conservation Service and Marceal managed a home with three children. After calling Meridian home for over 25 years, Charles’ work took them to Sweetwater, Texas where they lived for the next 37 years. Throughout their marriage, they shared a love for the mountains. A love which ultimately led them to build a cabin which would become their official getaway for the years that followed. Marceal had a passion for art and loved painting while summering in Ruidoso. She especially loved painting beautiful landscapes, animals, flowers, “interesting people” and different still lifes. She won numerous ribbons and awards for her paintings but most all enjoyed the people and subjects she encountered during the course of practicing her craft. Of course, there was no area of her life that didn’t reflect her love and dedication to Christ. She wasn’t preachy, but you could see the presence of Christ in everything she did.
She was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church, and the Winsome Sunday school class where she was loved as a dear sister.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Janie Whiteker and husband, Charles, a son, Mike Reeves, and a brother, Jake Whiteker.
