Born to Carmen and Adrian Vargas on a cold winter day, February 10, 1962, in Brooklyn, NY, Magda was the second of five resilient children. Her early life in the projects of Staten Island only served to shape her into a woman of perseverance and determination. A product of her surroundings, Magda developed an undeniable aspiration to rise above her circumstances, a drive that led her to join the Navy in 1981, following her graduation from Port Richmond High School in Staten Island, NY.
Magda Victoria Vargas joined the United States NAVY on 19 January 1982. She did her Bootcamp in Florida, then chose her job as a Radio Man, The Radiomen of the US Navy were responsible for transmitting and receiving radio signals and processing all forms of Classified telecommunications through various transmission media aboard ships, aircraft, and at shore facilities. Throughout her Naval Career, she was stationed on several Naval Ship and Shore Commands. In 1998 while she was stationed at NTCS Diego Garcia an Island located in the middle of the Indian Ocean, she met and would get to know a fellow Sailor, her future Husband Erick J. Escobar, and their friendship blossomed. She left Diego Garcia to continue to serve in several other commands while continuing to maintain the long-distance relationship with Erick. After finally completing her 20 Years of Military Service she was given an Honorable Discharge and Retired on 30 April 2002.
Magda moved back to New York but Erick had other ideas. That summer he flew out from California to visit but not to just visit but to propose and ask for her hand in marriage. She said yes! Magda found her Soul Mate in Erick Escobar, they arranged to meet and exchanged vows on August 21, 2002, in a small chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together, they navigated the journey of life, holding steadfastly to their special saying in bad times, "I GOT YOUR BACK". They Loved, Laughed, and Cried Together. Their story, spanning over 20 years, served as an inspiring testament to their enduring love and unwavering commitment to each other.
While in California, Magda changed course and got into the medical field. She started off as a Certified Nursing Assistance providing care in nursing homes bringing joy and laughter to all those she cared for. She later moved on to become a Medical Assistant to challenge herself more to be able to work in clinics and for doctors. In January of 2006, Magda and Erick packed up their bags and moved to Woodway, Texas where she worked for a few doctor's offices before ending up working for Waco Family Medicine. She made friends and brought laughter and joy everywhere she worked and everywhere she went. Some of you got to know her by calling her MAGS or Magda or Vicky but Erick called her his BOO. She was always willing to share her problems, just as she would lend an ear to listen to yours. Magda had a passion and love for angels, and will now be a guardian angel to so many who loved her.
Magda was predeceased by her loving parents, Carmen Yance Vargas and Adrian Vargas.
Left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband, Erick Escobar, her loving children, Marissa Lowndes and Randy Jimenez, and her adored grandson, Treyton Witt (aka, The Negotiator). Her legacy also lives on through her siblings - Adrian Vargas, Barbara Vargas, Nancy Vargas, and Rosendo Vargas.
In remembering Magda, we remember a woman of strength, courage, and love - a woman who left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
