Lydia was born March 20, 1922 at Malone, Texas in Hill County to Herman and Frieda Weiss Schronk. She grew up in Riesel, Texas, and attended Riesel schools where she played basketball and volleyball. She was confirmed April 14, 1935 at Frieden’s Evangelical Church in Riesel.
She married Albert (June) Mullens Jr. on June 15, 1940. They later moved to Mart, Texas, where their four sons were born. She was very active in her children’s varied activities, serving as Cub Scout Den Leader and room mother during their school years. She was a member of the Mart Presbyterian Church. After moving to Waco, she joined Youngblood Presbyterian Church in Robinson, and for the last years of her life she was a member of St. John United Church of Christ of Robinson.
Lydia was an Avon Lady for over 36 years, and enjoyed serving her customers from all over the Central Texas area. She was also employed over the years at The Methodist Home, Owens-Illinois Glass Plant, Gibson’s Department Store and Word Incorporated. She also worked along side her husband, keeping the books for his service station—Kerr McGee in Waco. In her 70s she enjoyed her work as a demo lady at grocery stores across Central Texas. When she no longer was able to drive, she helped coordinate demo workers for the area. She loved working with people and never met a stranger.
She loved being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother and spending time with them. Her home was always a welcoming place for family gatherings, and her family knew they could always count on delicious and abundant meals. She enjoyed baking and decorating cakes for her family for their special occasions. Lydia also made sure the neighborhood dogs and cats were well fed. Her other enjoyments included fishing, watching the Dallas Cowboys and Baylor Girls basketball, and watching the world go by from her front porch.
Lydia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sister Oranell Federwisch.
Left to cherish her memory are her four sons: Jimmy and wife Bonnie of McGregor, Larry and wife Rosann of Robinson, Steven and wife Karen of Robinson, David and wife Diane of Lorena; seven grandchildren: Meghan Taylor and husband David of Waco, Melissa Mullens of Robinson, Brandon Mullens of Abilene, Bradley Mullens of Robinson, Kasey Lenart and husband Chris of China Spring, Amanda Mullens of Vernal, Utah and Christina Perez and husband Paige of Vernal, Utah; five great grandchildren: Georgia and Dallas Taylor, McKenzie Gillette, Ella Lenart and Kynlee Perez.
