Robinson Drive, Robinson with Pastor Scott Spence and Rev. Don Kaufman officiating. Interment will follow at Waco Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 5:30-7:30 pm Friday, April 15 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Dr., Waco.
Lorraine was born January 31, 1925 in Louisville, Kentucky being the baby of seven brothers and sisters. She graduated high school and attended classes, including some business classes at the University of Louisville. In 1947, she met the newly ordained Paul A. Kluge at a youth retreat. They later fell in love, married, and shortly moved to Waco. In Waco, Rev. Kluge took over Pastorship at Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church, where Lorraine took care of printing the weekly newsletter and Sunday service bulletin. With the love of sports she played with Four Roses baseball team in the women’s league during WWII. She and Paul set out to open and grow the “Masters Workshop” church camp.
Lorraine used to teasingly say that in 1953 two tornados hit Waco. One being in May and the other Paul Jr. on August 3rd. From that point on, except for printing the newsletter and bulletin, she channeled much of her time toward Paul Jr’s education. Lorraine was very active in PTA, both city council and local school. After getting Paul Jr his degree from Baylor, she actually started taking some classes toward a degree in Journalism. She never completed the degree but her knowledge was very evident in the numerous and controversial “Letters to the Editor” in the Waco Trib. Lorraine was very active in Church Women United, being not only an extremely loving mother to her son, but to so many others raised in Zion Church. She took great care of all those around her including Paul Jr’s friends.
After losing Paul Sr. in 1996, she went to work in the records department of the County Court House Annex, and loved her job with a passion. In 2012, she moved in with daughter-in-law, Karrie and son, Paul Jr at their house in Chalk Bluff. Lorraine loved sitting on the porch watching the birds, deer, coyotes, and especially her cardinals and hummingbirds.
A special thanks goes out to Providence Hospice for their care and support.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials be made in the form of donations to Lorraine Kluge Memorial Fund, 399 Sheppard Road, Waco, Texas 76705. Those donations will be split among her favorite organizations.
