Lonnie “Meathead” Wayne Lackey went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 20, 2014, after a lengthy illness. Visitation will be at 6 pm to 8 pm, Friday, October 24 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco. Graveside services will be 10 am, Saturday, October 25th at the Riesel Cemetery off of Highway 6 and Broadway.
Lonnie was born on January 22, 1947 in San Francisco, California. He worked at Trade Winds Restaurant, where he met and then married Barbara Jean Crosslin Holt on June 9, 1970 in Waco, Texas. They were happily married for 44 years and raised seven children. Lonnie served in the US Marine Corp from 1964 through 1970. He was self-employed for many years in the construction business and his last place of employment was with Sims Plastic. He enjoyed cooking, outdoors, camping, traveling and his favorite past time were his trips to Bossier City, Louisana.
Lonnie was a devoted husband, daddy, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved making his wife, Barbara, smile. He had an imaginative mind and was always thinking of new and creative things to keep his children entertained when they were growing up. He loved to pick on his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and make them holler and yell. He was always “Pop” to all.
Lonnie was proceeded in death by his wife Barbara, his parents Margaret Ivey, Ernest Redding, & Robert C. Lackey, his brothers CJ & Johnny Lackey, his sister Doris Jean Polonsky , his grandson Justin Grant and granddaughter Miranda Baker.
Lonnie is survived by his children, Sherry and Chuck Gulebian, Vicky and David Pustejovsky, Billy and Jimmie Holt, Carolyn Diane and Billy Eilers, Kristi and Steven Butts, David and Stephanie Holt, Robert and Angi Lackey; his sister Martha Nell Baswell & Steve, his brother Donald Lackey & Pam. He also leaves behind 24 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
